the ice cream man wud ride on a bicycle or tricycle .... and in later years on motorbilkes, too .... with an ice box on the back, or on the side ... he wud ring the bell to let the children know that he's nearby .... & thats when parents wud sometimes get annoyed when the children wud start shouting & screaming, "mak, abah .... nak ais krem !!"
the tricycle icecream man
the bell - the icecream man wud ring it to call out to children & adult
both children & parents enjoyed the ice creams actually .... a choice of one scoop or two, or even three, on cones or sandwiched between a slice of bread or bun, or biscuits ... with chocolate, vanilla, strawberry & jagung flavors to choose from .... or even aiskrim potong ... a fav is the kacang merah flavor
a choice of one scoop chocolate, vanilla or strawberry ....
or a choice of three scoops ....
icecream sandwich in a bun ... if u haven't tried dis, make one at home
or sandwiched between biscuits ....... yum !!
the aiskrim potong comes in a long cube ...& is cut by certain length when purchased
that is why it is called aiskrim potong
then u pick it up with a stick ...
we can now get icecreams from the icecream shops, icecream parlors, kiosk, & even from the supermarket .... even the icecream men are now more advance ... they go round in a van !! ... well, maybe not here in malaysia
the dairy queen ... or dq for short
my friends & i we were there in carbondale for our 3-months english course before we moved to our respective university to pursue our degree in various school ... since we were there during the summer, & classes were only a few hours during the day, we would end up lepak-ing at the dq shop & a nearby arcade almost every nite
my fav ice cream .... then & now
when i moved to columbia, missouri, i discovered another ice cream parlor ... baskin robbins ... my friends love it too .... with 31 flavors to choose from in a day, we went to the parlor like almost every weekend when we go for our weekly groceries .... but not when i was in terre haute, indiana ( i moved there from columbia ) .... the baskin robbins parlor was on my walking route to-fro the campus ... it became almost a daily stop for me on my way home ... whether a cone, or a pint, depending on how much money i have with me .... i was really lucky i didnt put on weight !!
among my fav flavors ....
pralines & creams ...
jamoca ....
strawberry cheesecake ...
old-fashioned butter pecan ....
french vanilla ...
& chocolate .....
i can't remember when i first tried haagen dazs .... but coffee is my fav
just had a cup last nite !!
occassionally, i wud go for a simple mcd's plain sundae cone or cup ...
i wonder if there IS anyone out there who just simply doesn't like ice cream ..... come on ... give it a go ... u just might go back for more .... enjoy !!
